One, two, three, four, five,
Counting makes our numbers thrive!
Line them up and look this way,
Now we'll take a few away.
When some leave, don't be blue,
Count what's left—that's what we do!
Take away, count what's left,
That's subtraction, yes!
Big or small, short or tall,
We can do our best!
Take away, one by one,

Three float off so very high.

One, two, three, four, five is true!
Ten bright stars begin to glow,
Take away four—watch them go.
Count the stars still shining bright,
Six are sparkling in the night.
Minus means we take away,
That's how numbers learn to play.
Count what's left from start to end,
Numbers are our helpful friend!
Slow and steady, don't you race,
Find the answer at your pace.
Every time you count with care,
You'll find subtraction waiting there.
